This state-of-the-art laboratory complex is designed as a central location for five state programs important to public health and safety. The co-location of these distinct labs—standards, motor fuels, pesticides, veterinary diagnostics, and food and drug protection—allows the department to better serve North Carolina consumers and agribusinesses. With a mixture of offices, laboratories, and shared spaces, the facility supports nearly 200 employees with modern technology and advanced testing equipment, and also allows for expansion and growth.
Infrastructure design by Stanford White includes special systems for laboratory facilities such as purified water types, lab gases, air transfer segregation/isolation, special exhaust, humidity control, multiple voltage types, and high-intensity critical lab lighting. Fire sprinkler, domestic water and sanitary waste systems, roof drainage, air handling and heat transfer systems, power, lighting, generators, and fire alarm systems also featured. (In Construction)
