POLAR BEAR EXHIBIT
NC Department of Environmental & Natural Resources
This project expanded and renovated the NC Zoo Polar Bear exhibit such that the current habitat was enhanced and now allows for the introduction of more polar bears. Other residents of this Rocky Coast Habitat exhibit area include sea lions, puffins and the artic fox. A new 7,500 SF viewing pavilion with an education center and ice cave allows visitors to view these arctic creatures up-close. The habitat area was increased by 15,000 SF and a new 2,400 SF holding off-exhibit holding facility was constructed. The project also included renovations to the existing polar bear holding facility. Chiller plant systems serving the polar bear tank and exhibit area were upgraded to provide better service.
