Saint Mary's School
Stanford White was hired in 1996 and again in 2005 to provide a campus master plan for engineering systems. Founded in 1842, Saint Mary’s School is an independent Episcopal college preparatory school for girls in grades 9-12. The 23-acre campus is located on the outskirts of downtown Raleigh, NC in a primarily residential neighborhood. The campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and five of the school’s 24 buildings are Raleigh historic sites. Campus buildings range in construction date from 1835 to a 2007 addition. The engineering master plan included references to the school’s academic and capital improvement master plan, which outlined a 20-year plan of 140,000 SF of new construction (15 buildings) and 130,000 SF of renovations (11 buildings). Engineering systems in each building were surveyed, documented and evaluated as part of a multi-year improvement plan for campus facilities. Engineered systems that were evaluated include: boiler plants, central chiller plant and distribution, domestic water service, fire sprinkler protection, building HVAC, controls, centralized domestic hot water, electrical primary, electrical secondary, fire alarm and telecommunications.
